Closing the gap between arts and crafts!

It is the end of the school year soon and its time for final projects.
I made a pitch to my Sculpture Professor to do my final sculpture in crochet!

The project is influenced by Chris Burden's sculptural work with toys.

Chris Burden is known for his use of toys in sculpture. He says that toys are a reflection of our society as it is through toys that we inculcate children into adults.

My project is a comment on Japanese/American history and relationships. I, an American Caucasian young adult, use the Japanese amigurumi style and make toys and other adorable little things. I am using the amigurumi style in my sculpture as an ironic style. I am crocheting a replica of various important things from the bombing of Hiroshima.

Adorable chaos, at first you think awe that really cute, but then you look again and go... wait... thats a mushroom cloud... thats not very cute.

I want it to make the viewer uneasy, to think well it is adorable but its also horrible.

More to unfold in the future! Check back for more!
