Here is an update about the project I am doing for my sculpture class.
Chris Burden is known for his use of toys in sculpture. He says that toys are a reflection of our society as it is through toys that we inculcate children into adults.
My project is a comment on Japanese/American history and relationships. I, an American Caucasian young adult, use the Japanese amigurumi style and make toys and other adorable little things. I am using the amigurumi style in my sculpture as an ironic style. I am crocheting a replica of various important things from the bombing of Hiroshima.
Adorable chaos, at first you think awe that really cute, but then you look again and go… wait… thats a mushroom cloud… thats not very cute.
I want it to make the viewer uneasy, to think well it is adorable but its also horrible.
More to unfold in the future! Check back for more!
